Bowls BC is a Provincial Association, not-for-profit organization that represents both the competitive nature and the recreational and social aspects of lawn bowling. Bowls BC’s goal is to grow the sport of lawn bowling and develop its young and professional talent.
Lawn bowls clubs are great places to meet new people, participate and engage in fun competition, but they are also training centres for athletes in the Junior, Senior and National Team programs. With programs for the curious newcomer and the experienced veteran, men, women, and children of all ages can participate in the full-range of lawn bowling activities including indoor, outdoor and short mat play.
With opportunities to participate that range from local club social events to Provincial Championships and National Championships, bowls has something for everyone. As one of ten core sports that must be included in every edition of the Commonwealth Games, Team Canada will be off to Australia’s Gold Coast for the 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will welcome more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 Commonwealth nations and territories to the Gold Coast and event cities Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, to share in the celebration of sport, entertainment and culture.
The sport of bowls has been traced back to the 13th century and today over 40 countries play the game. It is widely represented throughout Canada with over ten provincial bowls associations, 252 lawn bowls clubs, and over 14,000 registered bowlers.
