The rain stayed away for the first day of the Hyack tournament’s round robin play, but when all six sections were set for the Sunday finals on May 25, the downpour began. Did that stop the 32 mixed triples team from playing for the money? Never.
The New Westminster Lawn Bowling Club – proud host of the 43rd annual running of this two-day weekend event – put on a great, smooth rolling tournament, giving teams seven games and a chance at some extra money for scoring a 6-ender on either day. This tourney always attracts some of B.C.’s top players and recreational players alike.
As the rain drifted off late Sunday, the ‘014 winners were decided. The powerful trio of Shirley Lai, Francis Yau and Skipper Christie Grahame took home the top prize followed by the Richmond based team of Gigi Chan, Kelvin Lai and Daniel Au.
