2026 BC Provincial Women’s Singles Tournament — March 27-29
The Pacific Indoor Lawn Bowling Club is a world class facility and the only one of its kind in North America. As such it is no surprise that they have been hosting the BC Provincial Women’s Indoor Singles tournament every year it has been held since the new facility was built in 2005. This year’s tournament has been particularly popular and competitive with 20 bowlers competing. This is the most registrations we have had in years.
With 20 bowlers and 6 rinks the draw itself was a challenge. The draw was divided into 4 sections of 5 bowlers randomly assigned. Each bowler then got to play four games against the other members of their section. The top ranked bowler in each section went through to the playoffs and the next four highest ranked bowlers across all sections also were promoted to the playoffs. The Playoff results are as follows:
Quarter Finals:
- Rainbow Lung (winner) versus Vivien Chan
- June Huang (winner) versus Bobbi-Jean Charlton
- Linda Ng (winner) versus Ivy Qian
- Gillian Poon (winner) versus Suphin Nakutnok
Semi Finals:
- June Huang (winner) versus Rainbow Lung
- Linda Ng (winner) versus Gillian Poon
Bronze Medal Game:
- Rainbow Lung (winner) versus Gillian Poon
Final:
- Linda Ng (winner) versus June Huang
An interesting indicator of the competitiveness of the tournament is that over 20 of the 48 games played were decided in a tiebreaker. The Gold Medal final between Linda and June was a great example of experience versus potential. With Linda as a Canadian National team player and multiple Provincials winner representing experience, while June with no major tournament wins to her name showed us a world of potential for the future.
Thanks and congratulations to everyone who did their part to make this tournament such a success, including the host club, the convenor, umpires, volunteer markers, kitchen staff and, of course, the bowlers. This is a great start to what promises to be a particularly strong 2026 season.
