What a great couple weeks of Indoor Bowls, as the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club was in full flight as Bowls BC hosted four Provincial Championships. This was the second year that Bowls BC displayed the Provinces finest with the Mixed Pairs, Triples, Pairs and Singles competitions

The past two weekend saw the BC Indoor Singles take flight, with the winners of this tournament getting the berth to represent British Columbia at the 2018 Canadian Indoor Championships being held October 22-27, 2018 at the PIBC.

The Men were the first up last weekend and saw a smaller crowd then normal that turned out to participate. There were a lot of usual names that were not at the tournament, but some familiar ones that were out on the greens to try and earn the title. Some great bowls throughout the weekend would see countless Bronze Medalist, Richard Yau get over the line in a hard fought battle against Jon Braun. Both players would play some great bowls throughout the weekend but Richard was able to outlast his opponent to win the Gold. In the Bronze game, it was relative newcomer Jimmy Duholke who would win, beating out veteran Michael Leung who made his way to yet another Medal Match at the Indoor Championships. Richard will now head to the Canadian Championships to represent BC.

In the Women’s tournament that was held this weekend, there was a huge showing with 22 women participating in the event. This would be one of the largest events in recent memory as players from across the Province made their way to the PIBC to battle it out. With a great mix of younger, older and newer players on the carpet, it was a familiar name that would eventually win another BC title. Josephine Lee (New Westminster LBC) would play some amazing Bowls to beat last years Champion Rainbow Lung in the Gold Medal match. In the Bronze Medal match it was Linda Ng who would add some more hardware to her growing trophy case.

Congratulations to all who participated in the events held this Indoor Season and a special congratulations to Josephine Lee and Richard Yau, who will now represent BC at the Canadian Indoor Championships this coming October. Already qualified for the Championships are fellow Bowls BC members, Pricilla Westlake and Hirendra Bhartu, who are last years Canadian Champions. They automatically get a bye as returning Champions into the event.

Thank you to all the volunteers that helped make these events successful as without you they would not take place. To George Cubiss and his Officiating Team, a massive thank you for all your hours of dedication. Lastly a thank you to the PIBC for working closely with Bowls BC, to ensure that these Championships take place. This is another massive step as we continue to see our Indoor Bowling participation grow.
