Another great weekend of BC Indoor Bowls as the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club was home to the 1st ever Indoor Pairs Championship. The Championship was held over Friday, Saturday and Sunday as there were 8 Women’s and 12 Men’s teams registered for a total of 40 bowlers. After some great Round Robin action the smoke cleared to have the top 4 teams battle it out in the semi-finals and try to earn there spot in the Gold Medal match. It was great to see so many people out to watch the matches throughout the weekend as the stands were full on the final day.
The Women’s event would see Pricilla Westlake and Jenny Siu going head to head once again in the Finals, but this time with a different outcome. As Pricilla and lead Emma Boyd would take home the Crown of the Indoor Pairs Champion.
In the Men’s event it was a similar situation as Michael Leong & Richard Yau would come through the Semi-Finals to meet undefeated Tim Mason & Vince Mai. No stranger to meeting in a final as they did in the Triples, the two Teams would battle it out in an almost 3 hour match to see Mason/Mai coming through with the win in a tie-break.
It was another great weekend of Bowls as it saw great participation numbers, as they continue to climb in the second series of the BC Indoor Championships.
A special thanks to George Cubiss and his Team of Umpires, Alan Webster and Francis Lee for volunteering their time to officiate the tournament. Also to the PIBC for hosting the Championship and providing a great atmosphere for a successful event.
