It was another great week for BC Bowlers as members Pricilla Westlake, Jaymee Sidel, Jenny Siu, Steven Santana, along with Coach Vincent Mai participated and won the 2016 North American Challenge recently held at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club. Team Canada captured 6 of 7 trophies that were up for grabs and took home the overall title for the 12th time in this being 14th matchup between the two Countries in this format.
This is another example of the facilities that we have in BC on display, as the Province in 2016 hosted the Canadian Junior Championships, Canadian Singles Championships, the North American Challenge and is getting ready to the host for the 12th time, the Canadian Indoor Championships which will be held October 30-November 5th.
All the results can be found here: http://bowlscanada.com/en/hp/nac.html
Congratulations to all the athletes that participated in the event and huge thank you to the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club and the Volunteers that gave their time to make the event a great one. Special thank you to Mary Anne Gilles who was the event Chair.
ABOUT THE NORTH AMERICAN CHALLENGE
The NAC is played over a three-day period with two days of pre-event practice. Games are played each day with Pairs and Triples played first followed by Singles and Fours. Each country fields teams of 10 Women and 10 Men. Each team is designated into 2 squads of 5 Women and 5 Men, one Folkins and one Jarvis for each gender, a total of 4 squads per country. Each gender specific squad plays the 2 squads from the opposing country. The better finishing squads of each country then play in the 3rd round of their discipline, and the other squads face each other.
