Logan Saunderson Wins Canadian U18 Gold….

The 2022 Canadian Youth Championships have wrapped up at the Port Credit Lawn Bowling Club in Mississauga, Ontario. Competing for British Columbia at this years Championships were Luci Ewen (U25), Rhian Wilson (U18) in the Girls Division and Auzzie Chambers (U25), Logan Saunderson (U18) in the Boys.

In the Under 18 Boy’s division it was Logan Saunderson from Sidney LBC that would stand on top of the podium as he could go on to win the 2022 Under 18 Boy’s Canadian Championships.

There were 6 players who made the Playoffs Lorrand Wong (SK), Logan Saunderson (BC) would receive an automatic berth in the Semi-Finals due finishing 1st and 2nd in the Round Robin. Other players qualifying for the playoffs were, Jacob Hyatt, Gannen Stanyer (ON), Easton John Edward Couturier and Dekker Ly (ON) were into the Playoffs. In a hotly contested Gold Medal match, it was BC’s own Logan Saunderson who would make it over the linen to win, by a score of 18-13. In the Under 25 Men’s division, 6 players advanced to playoffs, including British Columbia Auzzie Chambers from Juan de Fuca LBC. Owen Kirby (ON and Brad Roden (AB) would automatically receive a bye to the Semi-Finals. Unfortunately in the Quarter Finals, Auzzie would run into a hot Curtis Wartman (ON) as they played to a tight finish with the final score 21-19

After two closely contested games, it was ultimately the consistent play from Owen Kirby (ON) and the determination of Brad Roden (AB) that secured their spot in the finals of the U25 Men’s division. Owen came out very strong pulling out with an early lead with some nearly perfect bowls. Brad, never giving up, kept his head down and attempted to limit Owen’s scoring.  Owen took the victory with a score of 21-6. For the Bronze Medal game, Curtis Wartman (ON) and Xavier Stanyer (ON) had a very close match trading ends back-to-back. Ultimately, Xavier prevailed with a score of 21-19 claiming the Bronze.
