It was a great week of Bowls at the Canadian Singles Championships as the event returned to Winnipeg Manitoba for the last of the Open Championship. Bowlers from across the Country made their way to the the Norwood Lawn Bowling Club & Dakota Lawn Bowling Centre to try to win the chance to call themselves the Canadian Singles Champ.

At the head of the class, once again we find Mary Wright who continues to add to her collection of titles this year. An another amazing season as she made her way to the finals against young Jordan Kos of Saskatchewan. It was a spirited battle as both would take a set and head to the tiebreaker where it would be Wright who got over the line with a 9-5, 5-14, 7-2 win. British Columbia would also take home the Bronze as Marie Taylor had a great run herself, losing the Semi-Finals to Wright but putting together a great game to take home a Medal 4-6, 8-6, 3-2 over Jan Robinson. Mary will now represent Canada next year in Australia.

In the Men’s action it was Jerome Kirby of MB beating John Bjornson 7-6, 7-5. This is a second year in a row that Bjornson has made the Singles Final as he was in the final last year agains Pat Bird. A great man on and off the greens John was also the Chair of this years event and Bowls BC would like that thank him for his continued efforts to help the Sport on and off the greens. In the Bronze Medal match it was young guns David James Smith playing Kevin Dusablon. These two are no strangers to each other and the two friends would battle it out with DJS beating Dusablon 6-8, 11-4, 1-4.

Congrats to everyone who participated in this great event.
