It was another fantastic weekend of Lawn Bowls that was played on Vancouver Island, as 20 Women’s and 24 Men’sTeams would descend upon Juan De Fuca Lawn Bowling Club for the 2018 British Columbia
Pairs Championships. With the greens always in top condition, competitors would proceed through two days of Round Robin competition as Teams were broken out to different sections based on a random selection. After 5 games the top 8 qualifying teams would make it to the playoffs for a knockout format.

In the Women’s competition it was Lorraine Choi/Rainbow Lung that would make their way through a tough section to get to the Finals against young gun Katelyn Brierly and Anne Van Basteleare, who know the JDF greens like the back of their hand. In a hard fought final it was Choi/Lung that would get over the line and book their ticket to Regina for the Canadian Championships later this summer. The Bronze Medal match would see Mary Mulligan/Lynn Chwartacki beating Belle Chan/Lindy Ng to make it to the podium and win the Bronze Medal.

Gold: Lorraine Choi/Rainbow Lung
Silver: Katelyn Brierley/Anne Van Basteleare
Bronze: Mary Mulligan/Lynn Chwartacki

On the Men’s side there were no real surprises at this years competition as the usual suspects made their way through the Round Robin action to get to the playoffs. A few hard fought games would see veterans Christie Graham/Paul Choi vs Cary Manns/Dave Baldwin. Back and forth action would eventually see the Team of Graham/Choi taking the Final and earning the 2018 Pairs title. In the Bronze Medal game Paul Lee/Earl Luk would beat James MacGowan/Alex Bell to earn the final placing on the podium. British Columbia will be sending two Men’s Pairs Teams to this years event

Gold: Christie Graham/Paul Choi
Silver: Cary Manns/Dave Baldwin
Bronze: Paul Lee/Earl Luk

Congratulations to all the competitors at this years event and a special thank you to Annie and Davie Mathie along with their team of volunteers for all their hard work to make this years event a success. Thank you to the Umpires who continue to give their time and efforts to make it a great Championship.
