The Port Alberni LBC proved again to be a very accommodating and suitable Provincial venue. The green was superbly prepared and continued to be in great condition throughout the championship. The Club provided lots of healthy meals and a variety of beverages complimented with trays full of fresh veggies and fruit and home-baked goodies. Bob Stevens ran the round-robin draw well with no issues.
Mary Wright and her team of Donna Blackstock and Ann Van Bastelare completed a perfect round-robin 6-0 winning streak with Mary Mulligan and her team of Sharon Baldwin and Lynn Chwartacki coming in second with just one loss. So the gold/silver medal game was established easily by Wednesday evening.
The Parksville team of Sandra Mitchell, Christine Fereday and Carol Bucyk also guaranteed their place in the bronze medal game by Wednesday evening. However, their opposition had to be decided on Thursday morning with a game between two tied teams of the Nanaimo team of Frances Tester, Bernice Urbaniuk and Jean Giszas and the Courtenay team of Heather Divine, Shelly McCollum and Melie Ursulom. Frances Tester won the game setting up an all mid-Island bronze medal game for Thursday.
The games were well played and a treat to watch the skill of so many players. Sandra Mitchell and her team won the bronze medal; Mary Mulligan and her team won the silver medal; and, Mary Wright and her team won the gold.
Each player was presented with a flower and their medal by Bowls BC North Island District Representative Robin Forrest.
