Pricilla Westlake, B.C.’s only representative and returning champion at the Junior National Championship, defended her Canadian title successfully. The Junior National Championships, held in Ontario at the Etobicoke Lawn Bowling Club, also hosted the boys and the 25 & Under boys and girls events running in the same week. Westlake studies one of Kos'.

Mixed Pairs and Senior Triples Champs Crowned

This year’s Mixed Pairs Championship took a move to the North Shore and hit the real grass of West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club. Quibell, Mulligan, Cleutinx, Grahame, Cheung, Yung With 27 teams entered, the greens were full top and bottom. Always the best in B.C. show up to this tournament to try and book another.

Team BC Set for the Majors

The last weekend of July saw the last Major playdown come to a close and four new faces added to Team B.C. for the Canadian Majors in Winnipeg. With 23 men's teams and 21 women's teams, it took 10 draws over three days of double knockout Bowls at the Men’s and Women’s Pairs Provincial Championship.

Last weekend saw the Junior Girls play for the rights to represent B.C. in what was reportedly a very close competition at the Kelowna Lawn Bowls Club. After the first day of play in this Provincial championship, sponsored by Loopykums Pond & Koi and Health is Bliss, the competition was tied in the top three spots.

Last year’s National Triples silver team and Provincial Pairs Champions will be headed to Winnipeg. Even though the blistering heat was in full affect at the Nanaimo Lawn Bowling Club, no one likely wanted the men’s final game to end. But after 16-ends of play, the score was 17-16, in what was the closest final.

The July 4th weekend saw the completion of the first of three major Provincial championships, the Fours. Both Men’s and Women’s champions went undefeated against eight other teams, on each side, in the double knockout playdown held at the Juan de Fuca Lawn Bowling Club. Michael Leong ready to deliver. Photo: Bowls Canada After a long week of head to head Bowls in Edmonton, Michael Leong came away with the Men’s Bronze medal at the National Singles Championship. Leong slipped into the Bronze medal game after facing eventual Champion, Alfred Wallace, in the semi-finals. Wallace was an opponent feared all.

The 2014 Canadian Singles has been going on over the past week and BC has been well represented throughout the tournament as 5 players from BC attended the National Event to try and stake claim for the rights to head over seas to represent Canadian at the 2015 World Championships.
